2011, 2012 and 2013 Michelin Guide recommended Farmers Market at Irving Park Road (4000 north) and Springfield Ave. (3900 west), Chicago. We have a brand new vendor offering a full line of bison meat: ground, patties, steaks, sausage and jerky. There are 35 other vendors selling everything from Mirai corn, so sweet you can eat it raw, grilled English bangers to vegetarian tamales, crepes made-to-order to gourmet free trade coffee, frozen bison, organic fruits and seasonal vegetables, organic meats, including Halal lamb, honey, eggs, spices, kettle corn, baked goods, cheeses, olives and olive oils, handmade chemical-free soaps, shampoos, pet treats, tofu and bean sprouts, jams and jellies, gourmet chocolates, meat rubs and marinades, canned vegetables, dry soup mixes, fancy cupcakes and more! Bring your kitchen knives, scissors and lawnmower blades to be sharpened while you shop. LINK is accepted at the market. Special Back-to-School Giveaway: Free school supplies will be given out for children from kindergarten age to 8th grade. Limit one/child and the children need to be present. Children’s Activities: Free Children’s Craft Class from 10 am to noon. Lenny Zieben will be singing and performing for 1 to 3 year olds from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Rincon Family Services: Rincon is the traffic resource center in Chicago. They have information about car safety, child safety, Illinois safety belt law, car seats, drinking and driving and other relevant subjects. Music: Our favorite bluegrass musicians, the Indy Park Jammers, will be playing and singing during the market too. Bring along your guitar or banjo and singing voice to join in the fun with them. Recycling with Free Compost: Bring a bucket to get free used coffee grounds from Stivers Gourmet Coffee. Your acid loving plants, such as azaleas, hydrangeas, blueberries, rhododendrons and creeping phlox, will love you for the coffee grounds. At the September 8th market: A Bonanza Recycling Event. Electronics: Bring your old computers, computer accessories, cell phones, DVD players, VCRs, keyboards, monitors, printers, scanner, faxes and zip drives for recycling. Books: Bring books for donation to Open Books. Pick up any books for free as long as you bring one for recycling. Bikes: Bikes, bike parts and accessories will be accepted for recycling. The bikes are given a new life by redistributing them as tools of empowerment in local and global communities.
